— Acne Scar Treatment —

Permanent acne scarring from cystic acne and chronic breakouts can be extremely challenging to conceal.

Makeup can help minimise redness but textural scars that are raised or manifest as depressions in the skin are more difficult to cover up. For many people acne is much more than a skin condition. In fact, severe acne scarring can affect your self-confidence and many other aspects of your life. Fortunately, Restoration Clinic offers excellent acne scar treatment that by smoothing your skin’s texture and restoring a healthy, glowing complexion.

Acne is a very common condition and causes much distress amongst sufferers.  The first step in acne management is to control the breakouts.  This may require a proper medical workup and skin assessment and the use of topical or oral agents, and possibly hormonal intervention with medical or natural treatments.

Once the active acne is under control, there are many ways to address the resultant scarring. Fresh scars need a more conservative approach than old scars.   Acne scars come in many varieties because of the variable nature of the acne lesions.  Superficial scars may respond to chemical peeling (link) or skin needling (link) but deeper scars might need more localised strong treatment such as subcision or TCA CROSS.(link)

Our newest technology for treatment of acne scarring is the Potenza RadioFrequency Microneedling device (link), which has multiple specialised tips, one of which is specific for the treatment of acne scars.

Because acne scarring is individual, the treatment plan that will work best for you needs to be individualized so it is important to have a medical consultation and devise an individualized treatment plan.  Call Restoration Clinic on 94432222 in order to book an appointment with our experienced doctors or technicians.

Treatments for Acne Scars

Because acne is multifactorial and the scars can all look very different to each other the best approach to treating acne scarring is to treat different types of scars with the method that gives the best results for that type of scar.
Deep scars can be treated with a specialised chemical peel technique called TCA CROSS which reduces the depth of the scar by causing collagen production very precisely at the base of the scar. There are several treatments that can be used to reduce scar depth, and generally skin needling(link) or chemical peeling (link) will rejuvenate and smooth the skin, treating the more shallow scars.

Bloomea treatment (link) is the ideal place to start to resurface acne scars and give an overall smoothing effect and boost to collagen production.

At Restoration Clinic we will develop a tailored plan to control any active acne you have and treat your acne scars in the best way to reduce and smooth all the different types of skin damage that acne can cause, using whichever combination of modalities that will be most appropriate for you.

Bloomea treatment for scarring, stretchmarks, and irregularities of the skin

Bloomea is an advanced resurfacing technology that uses macro-exfoliation to smooth the skin and reduce the appearance of scars, lesions, stretchmarks and pigmentation. The treatment involves a 3-step process:

1. Macro-exfoliation for programmed and controlled peeling
2. High-frequency micro-vibrations that massage the skin to stimulate collagen
3. LED therapy that is applied to the skin to help heal and regenerate it

The Bloomea procedure does not use microdermabrasion crystals or chemical ingredients of any kind and is, therefore, suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. A series of treatments with Bloomea is usually required to improve acne scarring and other skin imperfections. This procedure is quick and delivers outstanding results, reducing acne scarring and stretchmarks and smoothing the skin texture.

Bloomea can be used successfully on the face, hands, buttocks, legs, breasts, and abdomen.

It is a pleasant comfortable treatment, leaving the patient feeling relaxed and comfortable.

Facial treatments with Bloomea include acne scar treatment, minor scars, melasma, and other pigmentation problems.

For the hands, Bloomea is great for helping with wrinkles and smoothing skin.  For the body, the appearance of stretch marks can be improved, more so in combination with skin needling (link), leaving the skin supple and moist.

  • Acne scars result from trauma to multiple layers of the skin through inflammation. Chronic acne breakouts with prolonged periods of inflammation can leave behind marks long after the blemishes have healed. These marks typically start off as pimples or cysts that have become clogged with excess oil or dead skin cells, creating a breeding ground for acne-causing microbes inside the pores. Severe swelling and irritation can cause the skin to rupture and the infected liquid to spill out, damaging healthy tissue in the process.

The body’s natural response to healing deep trauma to the skin is to synthesise collagen. Normally collagen production is beneficial; however, in the case of acne scarring too much collagen can be deposited in the affected area. Excess collagen fibres can become arranged in a chaotic or disordered manner giving the skin a “cratered” or bumpy appearance.  Acne scars may or may not be pigmented and can occur anywhere on the face, neck or body. Some of the scarring that occurs as a result of acne is due to the trauma of picking the lesions and this can be minimized if patients understand how important it is not to scratch, pick or squeeze pimples.

  • A good way to prevent acne scarring is to address breakouts before they become serious or out of control. If you’re in the middle of an acne breakout it’s recommended that you seek medical treatment immediately. Avoid picking or squeezing blemishes as this many cause permanent damage that will require treatment in the future. Furthermore, as the skin is healing itself scabs may form over the wound area which must be left alone. Scab formation is your body’s natural defense mechanism which allows the skin to heal and disturbing scabs can promote the formation of additional acne scars, as well as tearing away some healthy skin when dislodged.
