EXFOLIATING TREATMENT AT RESTORATION CLINIC
Our skin tends to lose that youthful glow as we age. We can develop skin laxity, texture issues and hyperpigmentation from years of sun exposure. This is especially true in Perth where the sun is strong and UV radiation index remains high all year round. Sun damage and skin ageing are not the only conditions, however, that can detract from our appearance. Chronic acne and acne scarring are also very common complaints and can persist long past the teenage years. Acne scars come in several types including pigmented (red or brown) and pitted (ice pick scars).
A highly effective and economical solution for addressing many skin imperfections is to undergo a series of chemical skin peels to reveal a healthy new complexion. Chemical peels are cosmetic procedures using a blend of pharmaceutical-strength ingredients to gently exfoliate the epidermal and sometimes dermal layers and encourage cellular regeneration and collagen synthesis. Chemical peels are available in various strengths, ranging from superficial to deep, and may improve skin tone, smoothness, texture, luminosity, and overall appearance with minimal downtime and discomfort. There are many agents available for use in chemical peels and at Restoration Clinic we have a wide range of choices, from which your doctor will select a program to best suit your needs. Combined with a high-quality skincare regimen available at Restoration Clinic, the results of your peel can last much longer and keep your skin looking healthier for many years.
Which Areas Can Be Treated with Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels can be used on most areas of the face and body. They can effectively rejuvenate skin on the arms, hands, legs, feet, neck, chest, back and even stomach. When done on the body, chemical peels can improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, acne, various scars and create a smoother surface. Stronger chemical peels are helpful for reducing stubborn bumps on the backs of the arms known as keratosis pilaris. A big advantage of chemical peels is that they are highly versatile and can treat many different types of problems. With the inclusion of ingredients to inhibit melanin production it is even possible to treat darker skin types if proper preparation is done. Which Chemical Peels Are Available at Restoration Clinic?
If you are looking for a medical-strength chemical peel, Restoration Clinic can offer treatments in different strengths and formulations to address several skin conditions and concerns. Most lighter peels are done in a series of 3-6 sessions to achieve appreciable results; however, stronger peels can produce excellent results after only one session. The type of peel that will be suitable for you will depend on many factors including the issue you want to address, your skin type, the amount of downtime you find acceptable, and the speed with which you are looking for results.
How Do I Know Which Chemical Peel is Right for Me?
The best way to determine which skin peel is most suited for you is to schedule a personalised assessment at Restoration Clinic. Our highly experienced doctor and technician can carefully examine your complexion and review your health history. The benefits of each peel will then be explained and you’ll be advised on the most suitable course of treatment to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Depending on the type of peel recommended, you may need only one or a series of treatments. Keep in mind that mild peels have little downtime whereas stronger peels may require weeks of recovery time, days off work and can carry a higher risk for side effects and complications. These and all the other aspects of the treatment will be fully covered during your appointment.
What Can I Expect After the Chemical Peel Procedure?
Depending on the strength of your peel, you may or may not experience some downtime. The lightest peels leave you looking glowing and refreshed but your skin can look a bit dull for a week or two once the first few days have passed.
Immediately post-treatment with a medium peel your skin will feel tight and look slightly pink or red. The redness and blotchiness can last a few days and your skin will look its best after several weeks. You may or may not experience obvious skin peeling, again depending on the strength of the formulation, and this depends on what sized clumps of cells exfoliate.
Exfoliation occurs but if it is only in small groups of cells you won’t see it as peeling. Medium-deep skin peels can produce more discomfort such as redness, swelling, and peeling. As peeling skin is difficult to conceal with makeup there is often a little downtime with the medium-depth peels.
The very deep skin peels are even more aggressive and require sedation and pain management. At Restoration Clinic we do not offer very deep skin peels because it is on par with a surgical procedure and should be done in a day surgery environment, but we can help you with mild to medium peels.
How Much does Chemical Peeling Cost?
We all have different needs when it comes to skin rejuvenation. Chemical peel prices will depend on the level of correction you want to achieve, how many sessions you’ll need and the type of peel recommended by your physician. To find the exact cost of your treatment we encourage you to book a consultation with one of our experienced medical professionals at Restoration Clinic. Mild skin peels such as Alpha Hydroxy Acid peels are ideal for treating fine lines, dry and dehydrated skin, acne and very mild pigmentation issues. Mild skin peels can be derived from citrus fruits (citric acid), sugar cane (glycolic acid) and milk products (lactic acid). Generally speaking sugar cane and milk acid peels are the most popular peels for cosmetic improvement. Milk acid is quite superficial and tends to be less irritating. Sugar cane acids penetrate deeper and can produce more “sting” when applied. The Mild skin peels available at Restoration Clinic vary in strength from 20% to 70% so they can address a wide range of skin conditions.

Mild to Medium strength skin peels can also range in potency and ingredients. They can be administered alone or in combination with other acids. Medium-deep skin peels that are based on Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) or Phenol, or high in concentration are typically administered by a medical professional. These skin peels are ideal for treating more advanced cases of premature skin aging, fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, uneven skin texture, pigment issues and sun damage but do have some downtime and can result in flaking and peeling and even a grazed appearance for several days after the treatment.

Deep peels are the strongest type of peel and bring the most discomfort and longest recovery time. For this reason they are almost always administered by a physician. The strength of these peels is determined by the concentration of actives used and the addition of other acids. For most people just one very deep skin peel is sufficient to provide dramatic improvement in skin texture and laxity, as well as overall facial rejuvenation. Results are long-lasting as long as patients are diligent when it comes to using sun protection but the side effect profile is higher and the downtime longer than with the lighter peels.
